Tile Flooring

PORCELAIN TILE

Porcelain Tile has all of the benefits of Ceramic Tile.  The primary advantage however is that Porcelain Tile is a more refined claying making them harder and less porous than Ceramic Tile.  There are typically 2 different types of Porcelain Tiles:

Full Body Porcelain

These Porcelain Tiles have the clay color running through the entire tile.  This helps if you chip a tile then you will still see the same overall color.  Some Full Body Porcelain Tiles also have a glaze design on top to match the center color of the tile.  Some of these tiles also come “unglazed” and require more maintenance (see below).

Glazed Porcelain

These types are durable in strength but do not necessarily have the same color going all the way through the entire tile.  They only have a glaze design on the top of the tile so if they get chipped the color in the center of the tile will stand out from the glazed color on the top of the tile.

Note: Unglazed Porcelain Tiles require specific maintenance (you cannot use any waxes, oils, scrubbers, bleach, ammonia, etc).  Please contact the tile manufacturer or distributor on proper maintenance prior to finalizing your purchase.

*Porcelain tiles usually cost more than Ceramic Tiles.  Glazed Porcelain Tiles are good products for Floors, Backsplashes and Showers.

NATURAL STONE

There are many options for Natural Stones (Granite, Marble, Quartz, Onyx, Travertine, Slate, Glass, etc). These products have a high amount of variation since they are a natural product. which makes them very beautiful.  Some of these products are very porous and do require more upkeep. Most Natural Stone products require sealing.

Note: Natural Stone products require specific sealing and maintenance (you cannot use any waxes, oils, scrubbers, bleach, ammonia, food dyes, etc).  Please contact the stone manufacturer or distributor on proper maintenance prior to finalizing your purchase.

The material and installation costs of Natural Stone products are typically quite a bit more than Ceramic or Porcelain Tiles. Natural Stone products are good choices for Backsplash installations.
